Gourmet Cupcake Maker

If you have been to a toy store or even the toy section in Walmart this Christmas shopping season, you have probably seen the Gourmet Cupcake Maker. I had never noticed them before attending a brunch for bloggers in NYC put on by Child’s Play Communication. Totally impressed, I asked for one for review and Janis Van Tine from Jakks Pacific graciously offered to send me one.
Product features include:
- Make super yummy cupcakes with the brand new girl gourmet cupcake maker
- Make the perfect cupcake icing swirl with cupcake maker
- Decorate your cupcakes with favorite frostings and sprinkles
- Make and decorate 4 cupcakes
- Chocolate, vanilla, red velvet and cinnamon sugar
I was hoping to use it for my Jr. Chef’s class at the YMCA this winter and so my daughters and I decided to try it out. I found out the following:
- 4 cupcakes don’t go far with big kids so make sure to buy extra mixes.
- Follow the icing instructions to the letter so that your icing is not too runny to stay in the icing tube until the cupcake gets under it.
- Even though the box says not to use other mixes, there should be no reason not to and it would make the product last longer for bigger groups. You would just have to follow whatever ingredient prep. instructions were required on another type of cupcake mix.
- Gluten-free cupcakes take a little getting used to and kids who don’t normally eat wheat-free products might be put off initially by the taste.
But, my girls enjoyed the fact that there was no assembly required, that they could use the tools easily to mix and bake, and the fun of seeing Mom clean up the icing that spread wildly after I added too much water to the mix. I am thinking that I would not use it in a large group like in my class simply due to the time it took to fill the little icing chamber and the fact that it is for ages 8 and up and my class is a little younger than that.
It certainly has a colorful appeal and a positive message to kids to get more interested in cooking in the kitchen. This cupcake maker is sold through Amazon.com.

I had seen this, but wasn’t sure about it. Boo would love it though. She loves to help cook, so this is right up her alley.

I honestly don’t think I need one of these! Call me crazy…but I don’t have room for another kitchen appliance kids or not and betty crockers makes cupcake baking easy enough for me…so let me just hope my girls don’t see it anywhere!
Enjoyed your review though!
