Sleep is for the Weak
When one woman decided to compile her favorite blog posts of all time, things got a little out of hand. What started out as a little project for her daughter turned into a full-fledged book called Sleep is for the Weak: The Best of the Mommybloggers, and thanks to the Parent Bloggers Network, I got a free copy to review.
Rita Arens, author of the popular blog Surrender, Dorthy and contributing editor to BlogHer, and Stacy Morrison, editor in chief of Redbook magazine joined forces to create this entertaining, poignant collection of posts written by 25 of the most well-known mommybloggers in the blogosphere.
With designing and blogging and you know, being a mom, it’s hard to find time to actually read blogs these days. So the best part about this book is that I can continue my blog reading even when I’m offline, and no one knows the difference. For all they know, I’m digesting a great work of literature as I recline on the porch eating bon-bons while the kids play in the street backyard.
Seriously, though, this is a great little book to have in the car for those 5-minute waits in the carline at nursery school and at the doctor’s office. I’m enjoying bloggers I already read and discovering new ones. These ladies are masters at their craft, and I find myself chuckling and nodding right along with them. I’m already looking forward to Volume 2. My only suggestion for a second edition would be to have a more diverse representation of mommybloggers.
If you’re looking for light reading material and you’re a fan of blogs such as Mom-101, Woulda Coulda Shoulda, and Amalah, you ought to grab yourself a copy of Sleep is for the Weak. And while you’re at it, pick up an extra copy for your best friend and give it to her for her birthday.
